刘子健（James T.C.Liu）生于1919年。早年求学于燕京大学、美国匹兹堡大学和哈佛大学，美国普林斯顿大学教授。研究范围遍及宋代政治、文化和社会生活的方方面面。著述有《两宋诗研究汇编》、《欧阳修的治学与从政》、《宋代的改革：王安石及其新政》、《传统中国》等。其中，《中国转向内在》一书在美国汉学界影响甚巨。
